TIPS FOR KNITTING WITH COTTON YARNS

1.  Use a size or two smaller needles than the pattern calls for. This will help you get a  final gauge = to wool yarn of the same thickness. Knit a test swatch.

2. Use wooden needles if you find the cotton yarn is too slippery or splits while knitting.

3. Cotton yarns can be bulky to knit with, start a new skein or ball at the edge of your  work rather than the middle.

4. Take frequent hand resting breaks, cotton work gets heavy.

5. If knitting ribbing in your work, use elastic thread for 3 or 4 rows. Cotton has no memory and does not “go back “.

6. Cotton tends to bleed even with colorfast dyes. Use one cup of vinegar in cold water to help set the colors.

7. Don’t hang a cotton knit garment to dry. Wash it in warm water and partially dry in dryer ¾ of the way then dry flat. If it’s humid out place a fan in front of it to help drying time.
